Domaine des Entrefaux is a Rhône Valley winery that produces labels with strong character and territoriality while embracing a truly sustainable production vision. The estate's history officially began in 1979 when Charles Tardy founded the Domaine in Chanos-Curson, east of the small town of Tain-l'Hermitage, in the Northern Rhône wine region. In the 1990s, Charles was joined by his son François, who now runs the winery together with his wife Anne, making up the fifth winegrowing generation of the Tardy family. In addition to the cultivation of vines, the estate is dedicated to cereal cultivation to promote biodiversity.
François Tardy and his wife Anne take care of the 28 hectares of vines on the Domaine des Entrefaux following the principles of organic farming, certified since 2013, and biodynamics. The vineyards are spread over three communes, Beaumont Monteux, Mercurol and Chanos-Curson, where the soils consist mainly of clay and limestone, with an abundance of stones. On these pedological parameters, the estate grows the traditional grape varieties Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne, with also small percentages of Viognier and Chardonnay. The oenology adopted by the Domaine is based on minimal and never invasive interventions, aimed at indulging the noble expression of the Crozes-Hermitage terroir. A mix of stainless steel tanks, cement eggs and oak barrels is used in vinification and ageing, each container used in relation to a specific purpose.
The production of Domaine des Entrefaux is based on Crozes-Hermitage, an appellation interpreted in both white and red versions. The product specification of this Rhone AOC admits a vast area surrounding the north, east and south slopes of the Hermitage hill, a famous French appellation. In general, Crozes-Hermitage are more accessible and immediate wines than their 'big brothers', yet not without complexity and elegance, as Domaine des Entrefaux's selection demonstrates.
