The Domaines Ott winery is one of the greatest names in the Provence region and its wines have conquered the whole of France and beyond. It all began in 1896 when the newly graduated agronomist Marcel Ott, during a trip through the illustrious French vineyards, came across a magnificent and fascinating territory. It was the Provence region, which, with its colours and scents of the Mediterranean bush, captured Marcel's heart. From this moment on, he made the courageous decision to invest in this land by buying some vineyards. In those years, however, the state of the vineyards was scarred by the devastating phylloxera disease, which had reduced them to a desperate state. It was therefore necessary to completely remove and replant the vineyards, introducing new and selected resistant and fertile rootstocks. After 120 years, the Ott estate is now run by the two cousins Jean-Franҫois and Christian Ott, and comprises 3 estates: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan. In 2004, Domaines Ott joined forces with another famous name in the French wine world, the Louis Roederer maison.
All of Domaines Ott's properties reflect a style of elegance that is common to its wines. However, each estate has its own very personal territorial character, which becomes an integral part of the distinctive identity of each wine. The respect for nature is an absolute must in the winery. The principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture have been adopted in order to guarantee meticulous care of the land without hindering the processes of nature. Chemical fertilisers and any other synthetic products are completely banned. Treatments are only carried out with completely natural mixtures and materials. In addition, intensive growing systems are not used and cultivation techniques are designed to optimise the health and productivity of the plants. The terracing, drainage systems and metal wires that keep the espalier-trained vines in place are tools that make this production method possible.
The wines of Ott range from red to white, with an expressive peak in rosé wines, which are the flagship type of Provence. To highlight the uniqueness of these products, Renè Ott designed and created a very special bottle format in 1930. Still today, it is shaped by elegantly curved lines that reflect the marvellous hills of Provence, which have always been the centre of attention for all the Ott generations.
