Pursuing a sustainable and genuine production vision, the Tuscan estate Le Calle offers expressions of fine authenticity that faithfully reflect the characteristics of the Montecucco territory. We are located in the hills of Poggi del Sasso, in the province of Grosseto, between Monte Amiata and the Tuscan Maremma, an area where the Catocci family has developed from generation to generation a profound knowledge of the territory and a strong expertise in agriculture and agritourism, another important activity for the family. The name Le Calle derives from the name of one of the plots cultivated by the estate. As mentioned, in addition to wine-making, the Catoccis are dedicated to cattle and sheep breeding, olive oil production and hospitality, thanks to splendid structures immersed in the green Tuscan countryside.
The Le Calle farm has a total of 80 hectares, 7 of which are dedicated to vines and cultivated with the traditional varieties of the area: Sangiovese in primis, but also Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo and Vermentino. The rows of vines, organically certified, are located at an altitude between 320 and 330 metres above sea level with south-east to south-west exposure. The soils are of medium texture and the training systems adopted are the spurred cordon and simple guyot. Once the grapes have reached the right degree of ripeness, manual harvesting is carried out, followed by fermentation, which takes place mainly in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts. An exception is the Dolce 'Beccaccio', which ferments for a good three years in small chestnut wood barrels.
The production of the family-run winery Le Calle is strongly linked to the tradition of the Montecucco area, with its character and grape varieties. The pride of the selection is the Montecucco Sangiovese 'Poggio d'Oro', a red wine with a balsamic and spicy aromatic profile that reflects the qualities of this DOCG. Also deserving of special mention is the Dolce 'Beccaccio', a dessert wine that recalls the characteristics of Tuscan Vin Santo.
