Luigi Tecce's winery is located in the Trinità district of Paternopoli, in the DOCG area of Taurasi wine. Luigi represents the fourth generation of a family of winegrowers, although he did not immediately follow in the family tradition and began his career as a horse jockey. For this reason he dedicated the Aglianico bottled in 2001 to the great equestrian, Varenne, who achieved great success that year. The death of his father in 1997 forced Luigi to give up the horses and return to his land. Here he cultivated just over one hectare of vineyard, planted with very old vines dating back to 1930.
Today, the old family vineyards are divided into small plots in Paternopoli, one of the most expressive areas of Taurasi. This is not only due to the altitude between 500 and 600 metres, but also thanks to the southern exposure, which allows the grapes to ripen excellently.
Luigi is a remarkable character, who loves to go against the tide by not employing a permanent oenologist, but only accepting the advice of his friend Vincenzo Mercurio. His harvest always lasts much longer than other winemakers in the area, as he picks the grapes one by one, as they reach perfect ripeness. His wines are pearls that shine with a very intense light in the panorama of Irpinia wines, and their names embody Luigi's poetic and literary soul.
"Luigi Tecce passerà alla storia dell'Iripinia vitivinicola per essere una voce fuori dal coro, portatore però di una sentimentalità vitivinicola davvero unica"
