Martin Arndorfer and Anna Stieninger are apprentices of great masters of wine, who are bound together in life by love and nourished by a passion for wine. Martin, in fact, is the son of a generation of winemakers while Anna is the daughter of Karl Steininger, who is one of the most famous and representative faces of Austrian winemaking. The winery is located in the Austrian village of Strass, which is in the Kamptal sub-zone of Lower Austria. This area is particularly fertile thanks to the presence of the Danube, which for years has shaped and moulded the lands of this region. Actually, the winery is not located on the great river, but on one of its tributaries, the Kamp, which is in the northernmost area for vine cultivation. Just 15 kilometres to the south, the climate becomes too rigid and the vines disappear in favour of wheat plants, as they are the only plants capable of resisting and adapting to the colder temperatures.

In the town of Strass, however, the hills are covered in vineyards and it almost seems like an earthly paradise for wine lovers. The vines of the Andorfer winery grow on two different soils: the first, which is characterised by silt, clay and sand, is ideal for growing Gruner Veltliner grapes, while the second, which is more rocky, is perfect for the Rhine Riesling variety. The influence of the climate, which is connected to a particular ecosystem and soil, together with the search for spontaneity that distinguishes the work of the winery, have made it possible each year to obtain healthy, pure grapes that faithfully reflect the mood of the year and the freshness of the territory. This is precisely the philosophy on which the work of the Andorfer family is focused: protecting the territory in order to produce genuine expressions with a strong local character. The same production principles are also adopted in the cellar with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and no invasive interventions such as clarification, micro-oxygenation or reverse osmosis processes. After his experiences in Italy at the Iuli and Ronco del Gnemiz wineries, Martin acquired a strong passion for barriques, which has become his most distinctive trademark throughout the region.

Martin and Anna Andorfer produce wines purely for pleasure, paying close attention to detail, while at the same time preserving the territorial and varietal expression of the grapes. They are concentrates of the terroir with a fresh, mineral and straightforward profile, much like the region from which they originate.
