A historic winery of Castelnuovo Abate, known for its prolific forty, Mostrojanni is now owned by the Illy Group, which has revitalized all production mechanisms to continue to offer those recognized and award-winning red wines that make the company great. In 1975, the lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni bought two farms at few kilometers from the Val d'Orcia and there he planted the first vines: it was a virgin land, which has never been cultivated. The steep slopes, the tenacious resistance of the forests, the dense presence of gorse with its strong roots had made for centuries this land uncultivable, abandoned by humans and inhabited by wolves and wild boars. The intuition of Gabriele, fascinated by the pioneers and inventors of the Brunello di Montalcino, provided the planting of Sangiovese, convinced that such a hostile and unyielding land would give little fruits, but of an exceptional quality: he was right. In a few years, thanks to the first bottles of the '80s, the quality of the wine, its aromas, elegance, finesse made the company famous worldwide.

The production activities still provide rigorous criteria for the grape harvest: a careful and meticulous eradication of the grapes that have been harvested in stages (in fact, the ripest grapes are gradually collected), further selection on the sorting table. Only the healthiest and mature berries are involved in the winemaking process: the absence of defects guarantees the wine the absolute immunity from unpleasant odors and aggressive tannins. Fermentation takes place in the historic cement tanks of the company or in new oak vats of the Vosges, from centuries-old plants, while the aging takes place in French oak barrels.

These wines are included in the great Brunello, at the top of quality and elegance. The gritty tannin structure is combined with a mineral stamp with amazing characteristics. These red wines are able to express all the wonder and excitement that only great wines can give.
