Quinta do Vesuvio is one of the most appreciated wineries in the Douro Valley, which has distinguished itself over the years for the production of great and legendary Ports, among the best in their category. The earliest records date back as far as 1565, but the real history of production began in 1830 with the charismatic figure of Antonio Bernardo Ferreira who, deeply enchanted and captivated by these marvellous places, decided to buy the Quinta do Vesuvio, then called Quinta das Figueiras, and to renovate the land. After seven years of hard work, in 1830 the first satisfaction arrived with the birth of the first Port. Antonio Bernardo invested his whole life in this activity and, thanks to his entrepreneurial skills supported by an innate genius, he created something great and impressive: a property that today extends over 326 hectares, producing wines recognised throughout the world for their excellence. The Quinta do Vesuvio estate has seen the succession of different personalities and families. Today, the Symington family, with more than five centuries of experience in the world of Port, is at the helm of the winery.

Quinta do Vesuvio is located in the Upper Douro Valley, 120 km from the Atlantic coast of Portugal and only 45 km from the Spanish border. Of the 326 hectares of the property, 133 are covered with vineyards, while the remainder is planted with orchards and trees surrounded by the wild and unspoilt nature of the area. The particularity and uniqueness of the area includes 7 hills, on the top of which stands a ruin that was once the home of the estate's guardians. This vast area has very different microclimates and cultivated plots at different altitudes ranging from 130 to 530 metres above sea level, creating different and unique sub-zones.

Since 1989, the Symington family has decided to devote itself entirely to the production of vintage wines, specialising in Vintage Port. The desire is to let the many facets and characteristics of each soil express themselves, in order to create an exclusive and unrepeatable product. The magic and potential of these lands were already highlighted in the past by the Viscount of Villa Maior, owner of the then Quinta Figueiras, who said: "This Quinta was made for princes...".
