The Regio Cantina estate represents the Piccini family's project on the slopes of Vulture in Basilicata, an area where the Aglianico del Vulture grape variety reigns supreme. The site of the winery, founded in 2004, is precisely the ancient border of Venosa, located in the north-eastern part of the region. Here the Piccini family arrived with a clear objective in mind: to enhance the link between Aglianico and Vulture, producing high-quality territorial wines with an eye on environmental sustainability. The estate is part of the 'Generazione Vigneti' project, launched in 2023 with the intention of enhancing the family's properties scattered across Tuscany, Sicily and, indeed, Basilicata. For the technical oenological aspect, the Piccinis, led by Mario with the support of their children Ginevra, Benedetta and Michelangelo, have chosen to rely on the expertise of consultant oenologist Giovanni Mondrone, a great connoisseur of the area.
The Regio Cantina - Piccini estate has 13 hectares of vineyards, planted on hilly land of volcanic nature and entirely dedicated to Aglianico del Vulture, the undisputed king of the area. The property has four different plots, between 15 and 20 years old, conducted according to organic farming principles. The vines then benefit from the high altitudes, between 600 and 700 metres above sea level, the excellent exposures and the considerable temperature fluctuations between day and night, a very favourable condition for optimal aromatic ripening of the grapes. In order to respect the integrity of the bunches, the harvest is carried out strictly by hand, usually between the second half of October and the first week of November. The grapes are then vinified with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and subsequent prolonged ageing in wooden barrels.
Regio Cantina - Piccini's signature Aglianico del Vulture wines are reds capable of impressing for their deep and structured style, typically Lucanian, without ever being excessive or heavy. These labels express the Piccini family's modern and innovative vision, while maintaining a strong link with local tradition.
