'ACCHIANA' NUZZELLA 2018 DESCRIPTION

Nuzzella 'Acchiana' is a nimble, juicy red wine made using a genuine agronomic and oenological approach. Situated in Piedimonte Etneo, on the north-eastern slope of Etna, the Nuzzella estate exclusively breeds the traditional varieties Nerello Mascalese, Carricante and Catarratto, producing highly typical expressions that reflect the extraordinary uniqueness of the Etnean territory. The appellation 'Acchiana' comes from the Sicilian dialect and means 'climb', chosen to highlight the volcano's considerable slopes and altitudes.

The red wine 'Acchiana' from the Sicilian winery Nuzzella originates from a single black grape variety cultivated under a certified organic system. The vines, with an average age of 30 years, are located at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level, rooted on alluvial-lava soil. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first ten days of October, and the bunches are then transferred to the cellar and destemmed and crushed before spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by about 10 days of maceration on the skins.

To the eye, Nuzzella's 'Acchiana' shows a garnet red colour. The olfactory texture is composed of pleasant aromas of ripe plum, cherry and berries, accompanied by deep hints of violet and sweet spices. In addition, the evocative mineral vein contributes to the overall aromatic complexity. In the mouth, the development is juicy, vibrant and graceful, with a well-defined tannic texture and a spicy savoury-mineral timbre. By virtue of its organoleptic qualities, this red wine is endowed with excellent versatility and pairs exceptionally well with platters of mature cheeses and cured meats, first courses dressed with mushrooms and various meat preparations.
