Vincent Wengier's Aligoté is a fresh white wine made from a lesser-known white grape variety, cultivated on limestone-rich soils near Chablis, where the winery is located. The company is converting to organic farming and works in the vineyard to reduce the impact of viticulture in order to preserve the precious soil. On the nose, fragrant hints of citrus peel immediately impact, together with iodine hints that find a savoury appeal on the sip. Very taut on the palate, it is suitable as an aperitif but may surprise with Asian cuisine, such as lightly spiced Chinese dishes

ALIGOTÈ VINCENT WENGIER 2022 DESCRIPTION

With its citrus and mineral aromas, Vincent Wengier's Bourgogne Aligoté traces some of the typical attributes of the grape variety. Originating precisely in the Burgundy region, as genetic studies have shown, Aligoté is related to the Pinot family, on a par with Chardonnay. Although its popularity is nowhere near that of the more prestigious Chardonnay, the Aligoté has found appreciation among winegrowers thanks to its resistance to frost and early ripening, the latter being a factor that allows excellent results to be obtained even in the most difficult vintages. Moreover, because of these qualities, this grape variety has always found a place in the coldest and least sunny plots, where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir cannot be cultivated.

Vincent Wengier Bourgogne Aligoté is made exclusively from grapes of the white berry variety of the same name grown on limestone-clay soil of the Kimmeridgian type, rich in marine fossil remains. Agronomic management is based on the principles of organic farming, certified from the 2023 harvest, while the grapes are harvested using state-of-the-art harvesting machines. In the cellar, the grapes are immediately subjected to soft pressing, followed by decanting of the must and subsequent slow alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out spontaneously and steel containers are also used for the maturation phase, which takes place on the fine lees for several months.

Vincent Wengier's Bourgogne Aligoté has a pale straw yellow colour. The nose has hints of citrus peel, grapefruit and flowers, combined with light mineral hints of iodine. The taste is taut and very saline, with a refreshing progression of good persistence.
