Vial Magnères' Banyuls Tradition is a v sweet fortified wine of great fame and tradition, produced in southwest France, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. It is made from indigenous grape varieties historically grown in the area: Grenache, Carignan and Syrah, which give the wine a harmonious and enveloping face, made of fruity aromas, hints of spice, and rich and elegant notes of tertiary evolution. The wine expresses the warm Mediterranean face of its land of origin with extraordinary persistence and aromatic complexity. Excellent to enjoy at the end of a meal, it pairs well with chocolate or bitter cocoa desserts, perhaps accompanied by berries.
Banyuls Tradition fortified wine is a true speciality of this small corner of France, almost on the border with Spain. The Vial Magnères winery is located in Banylus-sur-Mer, a few kilometres north of the Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Cerbère and Banlius. The estate covers about ten hectares of vineyards, divided into several parcels cultivated on the first spurs rising from the coast inland. The soils are rather stony, characterized by the presence of schist, and are often managed with terracing and dry stone walls in order to carve out small cultivable plateaus. The climate is typically Mediterranean, warm, windy and mitigated by the regime of sea breezes. Thanks to these favourable climatic conditions, the grapes reach ripeness with considerable sugar and aromatic richness, perfect for producing dessert wines.
Vial Magnères' Banyuls Tradition dessert wine comes from a fermentation with maceration on the skins, which is interrupted by the addition of alcohol so that a residual sugar remains in the wine. At this point begins the ageing process, which involves maturation for a period of at least 60 months in French oak barrels. In the glass, it is dark ruby red in colour with garnet highlights. The nose expresses ample and rich aromas, with hints of berry jam, aromas of cherries under spirits, nuances of soft oriental spices, dark chocolate and delicate woody memories. The entry on the palate is warm and sumptuous, with a centre of the mouth of deep aromatic complexity and a long and very persistent finish.
