Gabriele Cordero's Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Hica' is a red wine wisely conceived and constructed by Serena, Gabriele Cordero's sister and the young winemaker of this winery located in the heart of Roero. 'Hica' goes through a short period of aging in barriques, just enough to give it delicate toasty notes, which perfectly balance the juiciness of the broad and forthright sip in which notes of berries and strawberries stand out. A wine to share, now or in a few years' time
Gabriele and Serena Cordero's Piemontese cellar presents the Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Hica', a Barbera cru of important structure and complexity. The name 'Hica' comes from "hija", a Spanish word meaning "daughter", as this Barbera is the daughter of Serena's enthusiasm. In 2014, while she was in Argentina following an internship project with the University of Turin on Malbec vinification, she began to think about this wine. The label, designed by Serena herself, depicts a hummingbird and a stylized moon with rows and cultivated fields inside, a symbol of environmental protection and the lunar influence on nature. Finally, the inscription "SꓱR" is Serena's signature, with the Spanish verb "ser" meaning "to be" and reading backward as "res", "thing" in Latin.
Serena and Gabriele Cordero's Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Hica' is a pure Barbera from a plot of land about 10 years old located in Bricco Gatti. The plants, grown according to the principles of organic farming, are based on soils formed by clay and blue marls, at 300 meters above sea level with an excellent southwest exposure. When the grapes have reached the perfect stage of ripeness, the harvesting and destemming of the unpressed grapes are carried out in stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously with the help of a pied de cuve. The fermentation process, which takes place at a controlled temperature, occurs with one-third of the submerged mass, and the wine is then transferred to second-pass French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging for 9 months.
The 'Hica' Barbera d'Alba Superiore by Gabriele and Serena Cordero is a purplish-red color with violet hues. Scents of violet and wild berries characterize the smell together with slightly toasted hints of tobacco and vanilla. A warm and ample sip, soft and structured, supported by a pleasant freshness that prolongs its finish.
