BAROLO BARTOLO MASCARELLO 2012 DESCRIPTION

In the person of Bartolo Mascarello rests much of the history of Barolo, from the beginning of last century until the present days: rather, the historical wine cellar of Via Roma in the heart of the town of Barolo, taken in charge by Bartolo Mascarello after his father since the 60s, represents the very quintessence of the great Langhe reds, following a style that has never succumbed to the lure of modernity. Bartolo Mascarello's Barolo, able to fascinate fans around the world for his loyalty to a traditional model almost entirely gone, is a tight wine, shy when is young but rising in aroma and taste with the progression of time, up to reach after a reasonable aging a complex configuration, deep, with rich shades and a strenght hardly comparable with similar products. When the charismatic figure of Bartolo Mascarello disappeared, the difficult heritage left by him was put together by his daughter Maria Theresa, proficient in instilling new personality and stylistic precision in the wines produced, keeping the farm size unchanged despite a big demand from everywhere. The grapes which come together in this unique and unmistakable Barolo come from some of the most important Langhe crus, among which we find San Lorenzo and Cannubi from Barolo and Rocche from La Morra. The sensitivity of Maria Teresa Mascarello for a viticulture that respects the local natural sources generated an agricultural philosophy with a very low environmental impact. In the cellar each fermentation takes place in concrete vats and all the wines are aged in the large oak barrels of the Piedmontese tradition. The result is a Barolo with deep aromatic tones, a solid materiality in the palate and fine tannins: this unique wine, which brings the full weight of Mascarello production philosophy, gains many benefits from a successful evolution over time, able to turn this Barolo, after some years, into an authentic symbol of Langhe expressiveness.
