BAROLO BARTOLO MASCARELLO 2018 DESCRIPTION

Mascarello Barolo embodies the historical memory of the Langhe and is produced in the legendary winery at 15 Via Roma in the commune of Barolo, which was, throughout the 1900s, a landmark frequented by intellectuals, political activists and great enthusiasts. Today, this label, which Maria Teresa continues to produce with the same respect for the traditions and culture of the place as her father Bartolo, represents the very quintessence of the great reds of the Langhe, according to a style that has never succumbed to the lure of modernity and that has been confirmed over the decades as splendidly and stubbornly traditionalist, even when fashions and easy profits induced producers to indulge traditional tastes and the use of barrique.

Barolo Bartolo Mascarello fascinates wine lovers all over the world for its fidelity to a traditional style that has become very rare and almost disappeared: a rigorous, austere and elegant wine, shy in its youth but ascendant on the aromatic and taste level after long ageing in the bottle, until it reaches unparalleled qualitative heights and a complex and profound configuration, rich in nuances and with great momentum. The grapes used for the production of this historical and legendary label come from just 3 hectares included in some of the most important crus of the Langhe, including the San Lorenzo, Cannubi and Rocche vineyards, and are vinified all together in concrete tanks as the most ancient Piedmontese tradition dictates. Ageing then takes place for 32 months in large Slavonian oak barrels.

Barolo Mascarello Bartolo has become famous not only for its old-world charm combined with an impeccable and austere profile but also for an uncommon capacity for ageing that can extend for several decades. It has deep and complex aromatic tones and scents of ripe fruit, black fruit, spices and dried flowers. On the palate it is firm and textural on the palate but also fresh and slender, supported by a fine and elegant tannic texture. This splendid bottle, which carries with it all the poignancy of Mascarello's production philosophy, has become an indispensable classic for gourmets all over the world and lovers of great reds thanks to its ability to express in every different vintage and in an integral and authentic way the wide and complex territorial expressiveness of the Langhe.
