BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO MASTROJANNI 2018 DESCRIPTION

Mastrojanni's Brunello di Montalcino represents a bottle of remarkable merit and elegance, produced by one of the iconic names of the Montalcino district. The history of the estate began in 1975 with the purchase of the San Pio and Loreto estates by Roman lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni, who planted the first Sangiovese Grosso vineyards with the firm intention of producing a great Brunello. In 1992, management of the estate was entrusted to Andrea Machetti, who is still in charge of production today, assisted by renowned winemaker Maurizio Castelli. In 2008 the property passed to the Illy Group, which introduced important innovations both in the vineyard and in the winery.

Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino is made from only Sangiovese Grosso grapes grown between 180 and 420 meters above sea level on mainly clay-limestone lean soils with southeast and southwest exposure. At the winery, the grapes are carefully selected and then mellowed in concrete tanks for alcoholic fermentation with prolonged maceration on the skins. The ensuing ageing process takes place in 16-, 33- and 54-hectoliter Allier oak barrels, containers in which the wine rests for 36 months before blending and final bottling. After at least 6 months of further bottle ageing, the wine is finally ready for release.

In the glass, Brunello di Montalcino Mastrojanni reveals an intense and brilliant ruby-red coat with garnet hues. Wide and fascinating olfactory framework painted by crisp red fruit scents that combine with deep perceptions of incense, black pepper, vanilla and sweet tobacco. The palate shows itself complex and round, intense and full-bodied, of brilliant fresh-savoury verve and velvety tannic texture. The long finish is very consistent with the fruity and spicy sensations evoked by the nose.
