The name "Burdese" of Planeta's bottle is taken from the Sicilian dialect and refers, in meaning, to the "Bordeaux" origin of the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc: usually, the term is used on the island to designate those wines that feature varieties typical of the wine region west of France. In the wide offerings of one of Sicily's most representative wineries, this red offers optimal value for money, as well as a cross-section of the excellence of this island's wines even when it comes to non-native grape varieties, intuition and skill of the Planeta family.
"Burdese" Planeta is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from estate-grown grapes in western Sicily. Giving rise to Burdese are the Tunno vineyards, planted on a deep, clay-rich portion of the soil, and Maroccoli, located behind Lake Arancio and rich in organic matter, in the sunny Agrigento plain of Menfi, about 150 meters above sea level. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, and then go into steel tanks for fermentation with 21 days of maceration on the skins. Maturation takes place in new Allier oak barrels for 14 months, preceded by the conduct of malolactic fermentation in wood and steel.
Planeta "Burdese" shows itself with its very intense, dense, thick ruby red. The aromas coming from the glass have the deepness of red fruit, above all blackberries and black cherries, with the intensity and penetrating notes of tertiary scents: leather and tobacco in primis. In the mouth, it is a jolt of energy and strength of a well-structured body, in which the play of tannins is well present but unravels on a delicate carpet. From these premises comes Burdese, intense in its woody contributions and generous in its spicy notes but dynamic in the evolution of the scents, with a structure in line with the geo-climatic characteristics of the territory of origin.
