Red 'Cabernet Merlot - San Leopoldo' La Casaccia di Franceschi 2021

The Red 'Cabernet Merlot - San Leopoldo' from La Casaccia di Franceschi is an elegant blend, an expression of the Maremma estates of this egregious Ilcinese company. The international vines are treated with small wood and submerged cap to concentrate the fruity and spicy elements of the grapes. The nose reveals intense aromas of blackcurrant and ripe cherry, with hints of black pepper and delicate nuances of vanilla; on the sip a velvety texture reveals the presence of Merlot. RED 'CABERNET MERLOT - SAN LEOPOLDO' LA CASACCIA DI FRANCESCHI 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Red Cabernet Merlot 'San Leopoldo' from the Tuscan winery La Casaccia di Franceschi is an interpretation of the territory of the Tuscan Maremma with an international dimension. San Leopoldo' originates precisely in the area of Cinigiano, in the province of Grosseto, the site of the Le Spinaie estate, a property that the Franceschi family has dedicated to the cultivation of the international grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenere.

The Cabernet Merlot 'San Leopoldo' La Casaccia di Franceschi Rosso comes from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes grown in the municipality of Cinigiano, at an altitude of 340 metres above sea level. The vines grow on soils dating back to the Cretaceous period, characterised by the presence of clay and fine marly limestone. Harvesting is done by hand and is followed by careful sorting of the bunches of grapes using an optical selector. The wine is then vinified in red through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by 20 days of maceration on the skins using the submerged cap technique. The ensuing malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel and is followed by 12 months of ageing in American oak barriques.

To the eye, the Red 'San Leopoldo' Cabernet Merlot of the La Casaccia di Franceschi winery expresses an intense ruby red colour. The aromatic array carries fruity perceptions of cherry and blackcurrant, combined with characteristic vegetal notes of pepper and spicy hints of vanilla and black pepper on the finish. The taste is very fresh and well structured, with velvety tannins accompanying the long aromatic persistence on the finish.
