CASAVECCHIA DI PONTELATONE 'TRIFOLIUM' ALOIS 2018 DESCRIPTION

The Casavecchia di Pontelatone 'Trifolium', produced by the Alois winery, allows us to get to know the authentic face of this ancient indigenous vine, which risked disappearing and was only rediscovered and valorised in recent decades. It originates in an area that was already famous at the time of the ancient Romans, who produced the famous Trebulanum wine in the area of the ancient city Tremula Balliensis, corresponding to the current Pontelatone countryside. It is a full-bodied, intense and structured red wine with important tannins and a very satisfying sip, suitable for pairing with roasted red meats or spit-roasted game.

"Trifolium' is a Casavecchia di Pontelatone made by one of the most representative wineries in the Caserta area. The Alois estate was created at the beginning of the 1990s and today can count on an extension of 30 hectares, cultivated with native vines typical of the area. The Casavecchia grapes come from the Alta Campania area of the Monti Trebulani, in particular from the locality of Audelino. The vineyards are located on a plateau at an altitude of about 150 metres above sea level, not far from the ancient extinct volcano of Roccamonfina, the Matese Massif and Vesuvius. The area is characterised by a mild and breezy climate, with large temperature ranges between day and night. The soils are of ancient volcanic origin with the presence of tuffs, pozzolan and ignimbrite. Harvesting takes place during the first ten days of October and the best grapes are sent for fermentation in 80-hectolitre barrels, with maceration on the skins for about ten days and frequent pumping over. The wine ages for 24 months in 25-hectolitre wooden vats and completes its maturation with 24 months in the bottle.

The red Casavecchia di Pontelatone 'Trifolium' by Alois is an original red, the fruit of an ancient variety, which has gained a certain notoriety in recent years, thanks to its unique and inimitable character, which retains an untamed wild trait. In the glass, it is a dark ruby colour with luminous reflections. The nose is characterised by rich aromas of small dark berries, blackberry, plum, ripe black cherry and delicate spicy hints. Of considerable structure and intensity, it possesses a dense tannic texture, which envelops a rich, dense and ample fruit. The sip is long and persistent, with a good final freshness.
