CHABLIS PREMIER CRU 'MONTMAINS' JOSEPH DROUHIN 2022 DESCRIPTION

Joseph Drouhin's Chablis Premier Cru 'Montmains' is a white wine with a fresh, mineral profile, revealing the vibrant face of the great Chardonnays of this famous area of Burgundy. An expression of the listed Premier Cru Mantmains, which is located opposite the Grand Cru area, on the opposite side of the Serein river, it offers all the elegance and finesse typical of the area. Vinification and ageing only in steel enhance the varietal notes, bringing to the fore delicate floral aromas, fruity fragrance and a lively iodine freshness, the true hallmark of this fascinating terroir.

"Montmains" Chablis is produced by one of the most important domaine in Burgundy. Joseph Drouhin owns a total of 78 hectares divided between Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis, with around 2/3 of the plots classified as Premier or Grand Cru. As a true pioneer, he began to limit the use of chemicals in the vineyard after the Second World War and then adopted the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The Chablis vineyards are the most northerly on the estate. The estate comprises a number of fine plots in the Grand Cru of Bourgros, Les Clos, Vaudésir and the Premier Cru of Mantmains, Sécher and Vaillons. The vines are around 30 years old and are cultivated with high density and low yields on limestone soils rich in marine fossils, which give the wines of the area a distinct savoury and mineral note. Thanks to the excellent quality of the grapes and delicate vinification methods that are very respectful of the raw material, Joseph Drouhin's wines are faithful and authentic expressions of the terroir and express all the finesse and elegance of Chablis Chardonnay.

The "Montmains" Drouhin is a Chablis made from approximately 30-year-old vines cultivated on limestone soils of the Kimmeridgian, formed by the sedimentation of tiny marine fossils from a very ancient seabed. After manual harvesting, the grapes are softly pressed. The flower must ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine rests for 7-8 months in steel tanks. In the glass, it is straw yellow in colour with slight greenish reflections. The bouquet is subtle and refined, with scents of bank flowers, orange blossom, aromatic herbs, citrus aromas, fragrant white-fleshed fruit and iodised nuances. On the palate, it is elegant and essential, with a deep, savoury and linear mouthfeel that flows into a finish of lively mineral freshness.
