Chianti Classico Riserva La Selvanella Melini 2020

Melini's Chianti Classico Riserva La Selvanella is a single-varietal red wine from Sangiovese grapes that takes its name from the winery's estate in Radda, Tuscany. The vineyards of La Selvanella enjoy their privileged position and unique terroir of alberese soils that give the wines a certain complexity and depth. This Chianti is aged in oak barrels for a period of 30 months and, on tasting, reveals toasted and spicy aromatic nuances, intense notes of raspberry jam and hints of vanilla. Ideal to accompany rich and savoury dishes such as braised meat or well-aged cheeses

CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA LA SELVANELLA MELINI 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Chianti Classico Riserva ‘La Selvanella’ by the extensive Tuscan winery Melini is a Sangiovese characterized by its historical significance as it was the first Chianti Classico labeled as an expression of a single vineyard. First produced with the 1969 vintage, the ‘La Selvanella’ cru demonstrates the foresight that has always distinguished Melini's production philosophy. The vineyard, covering a substantial 50 hectares, is located in the territory of Radda in Chianti and is the result of massal selection of Sangiovese planted in the 1960s.

The Melini ‘La Selvanella’ Chianti Classico Riserva is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes cultivated in a single vineyard rooted in alberese, galestro, and calcareous marl soils, situated at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level with excellent southwest exposure. Following the harvest, the grapes are taken to the winery where they are vinified in stainless steel tanks, where the alcoholic fermentation occurs in contact with the skins for about 3 weeks. After the fermentation process is complete, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for 30 months of aging, followed by bottling and a further year of aging in glass.

In the glass, the Melini ‘La Selvanella’ Chianti Classico Riserva reveals a ruby red color with subtle garnet reflections. The aromatic mosaic comprises intriguing scents of raspberry and ripe plum, undergrowth, balsamic herbs, toasted almond, leather, and sweet spices such as cinnamon and vanilla. Complex and elegant on the palate, where full-bodied warmth is accompanied by excellent fresh-savory drive, describing a flavorful and persistent finish with fruity and spicy sensations consistent with the nose.
