The Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Monsanto is an intense and elegant expression of Tuscany, aged for 18 months in small barrels. It expresses itself with notes of ripe berries and spicy, balsamic and underbrush nuances. The sip is enveloping, warm and full-bodied, with excellent harmony
The Chianti Classico Riserva from the Tuscan winery Castello di Monsanto strikes for its noteworthy territorial and varietal adherence, configuring itself as an authentic Chianti manifestation. It is one of the oldest Italian labels, the marketing of which began as early as the early 1960s, as well as by far the most produced bottle by Castello di Monsanto, testifying to the strong bond that unites this historic estate and the Black Rooster territory.
Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva consists of a solid base of Sangiovese, to which is added 10 percent of the two native varieties, Colorino and Canaiolo. The vines are located between 280 and 320 meters above sea level and are surrounded by numerous plant species typical of Tuscany, in a teeming biodiversity. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled truncated steel vats, with about 18 to 20 days of maceration on the skins, during which extraction practices such as délestage and pumping over are adopted. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine spends 18 months ageing partly in large 38-hectoliter oak barrels and partly in second-passage tonneaux, followed by an additional 6 months of bottle ageing before the final release.
Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Monsanto has a deep, intense ruby-red hue. The nose offers hints of ripe blackberry and blueberry, followed by vegetal and balsamic perceptions and pleasant spicy notes. Excellent sapidity and freshness on the palate, balancing the body and flavour intensity, with elegant tannins providing the framework. The long finish highlights excellent taste-olfactory correspondence.
