Cometa is a Sicilian white wine that stems from the Planeta winery's desire to create a great product made from grapes grown in southern Italy, capable of competing with the world's most noble whites. It is precisely from this desire that the path of experimentation begun in the 1990s on Fiano, a noble and ancient variety of Campanian origin, originated. This, then, is the genesis of Cometa, a label that best expresses the characteristics of this grape variety, where intense aromas, excellent structure and elegance reveal the happy union between grape variety and territory. A reference white for the entire enology of southern Italy, to be savoured to the last drop.
Cometa wine comes from the pure use of a large white grape variety native to Campania and widely grown throughout southern Italy, Fiano. The grapes, once harvested and brought to Planeta's winemaking facilities, are destemmed and softly pressed, alcoholically fermenting in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15 degrees. The wine then matures on the fine lees for several months, at the end of which it is ready to be bottled and marketed.
This Comet is a wine that, in the glass, takes on a straw-yellow colour, characterized by light greenish reflections. Engaging on the nose, where ample floral scents alternate with fruity sensations and nuances, with a light touch of herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied, refined and harmonious, with a bite of pleasant freshness; it finishes with a lingering finish. A Sicilian white signed Planeta that is ready to drink and also lends itself to gentle evolution over the next few years, to be paired with dishes in which the sea is the protagonist.
