Bergmannhof's 'Eart' is an orange-style white that tells the story of ancient soil. It is a blend of international and local grape varieties matured in terracotta and then oak, weaving a distinctly territorial profile. On the nose, ripe fruit intertwines with hints of tobacco and dried flowers, with hints of smoke and iodine on the finish, while on the palate, a decisive, mineral and savoury character emerges, with fine, silky tannins. An orange that promises longevity
The 'Eart' wine is one of the most distinctive labels from the South Tyrolean Bergmannhof winery, an orange wine made from terracotta amphorae and old oak barrels that makes complexity and structure its hallmarks. The tradition of vinifying white grapes in amphorae in contact with the skins for months is a practice with deep historical and cultural roots, which has accompanied the link between man and wine from the very beginning, as demonstrated by finds of ancient Georgian amphorae.
The Bergmannhof 'Eart' consists of a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Manzoni Bianco grapes, varieties grown according to sustainable agronomic practices. The vines are between 10 and 30 years old and are planted on clay-limestone soils rich in gravel and skeleton in the area of San Paolo, a hamlet of the municipality of Appiano. Following manual harvesting in early September, the grapes are vinified through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in an earthenware amphora, with four long months of maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation is carried out and the ageing phase takes place on the fine lees for 15 months in a used oak tonneau. The final bottling is carried out without the use of filtration.
Bergmannhof's orange wine 'Eart' has a golden yellow colour with amber highlights. The complex aromatic bouquet carries hints of ripe apricot and pleasant herbaceous hints of black tea, combined with deep tobacco sensations and hints of iodine and smoky tones on the finish. The progression on the palate is taut, structured and of good depth, with a pronounced fresh-savoury verve that is accompanied by rather pronounced tannin, an element that does not, however, preclude a smooth and juicy finish.
