Fumin from the Valle d'Aosta winery Ottin is a label with a territorial face made from the native red grape variety of the same name. It is an artisanal wine, born thanks to the passion and tenacity of one of the best vignerons in Valle d'Aosta, who has always been committed to showcasing the excellence of this small Alpine territory. The cool climate, stony and sandy soils, poor and well draining, are ideal for viticulture. The grapes ripen slowly, with strong temperature swings, which allow them to fix particularly intense aromas and flavours. Fumin perfectly expresses the austere and stony character of mountain viticulture, offering a unique and original taste experience.
Fumin red wine is born in the heart of the Aosta Valley. Elio Ottin cultivates a 7-hectare estate in the hamlet of Porossan Neyves, a few kilometres north of Aosta. The vineyards are located on steep slopes that slope up toward the mountains and are made up of numerous small plots located in the area's most suitable locations. The vines, which donate the grapes to make this important label of the winery, come from a parcel located in the municipal area of Quart. The Fumin vines are grown on sandy and loamy soils at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level, with a sunny exposure facing south. Fermentation takes place in 30-hectoliter vats with classic maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 12 months on the lees in 20-hectoliter barrels or barriques and completes the ageing period with 4 months in the bottle before release for sale.
Ottin's Fumin wine is one of the most typical reds of the Aosta Valley. Cultivated for many centuries, it is proving capable of giving long-lived reds of particular merit, which well represent the character of heroic mountain viticulture. To the eye, it is a dense, dark purple-red colour with purplish highlights. On the nose, it is rich and intense. The aromatic framework expresses aromas of blackberry, morello cherry, red fruit, berry jam, humus, delicate spicy hints and toasted nuances. The sip denotes good structure, with dense aromas and dense and lively tannins. The closure is fresh and very persistent. It is a wine with a gastronomic vocation to be enjoyed with roasted red meats or games.
