Grillo 'Azisa' Zisola - Mazzei 2023

Grillo 'Azisa' by the Mazzei family's Zisola estate is a wine that tells the essence of eastern Sicily. 'Azisa' means 'splendid' in Arabic, a reminder of the brightness of this sun-kissed, limestone soil planted with vine saplings. The wine's Mediterranean character is immediately evident on the nose, where notes of white flowers and citrus fruits blend. On the palate it stands out for its freshness and minerality. Very drinkable, it is a perfect companion for light starters, seafood first courses and grilled vegetables.

GRILLO 'AZISA' ZISOLA - MAZZEI 2023 DESCRIPTION

The Grillo 'Azisa' from the Sicilian-Tuscan Zisola - Mazzei winery is a dry white wine with a savoury and drinkable character, an excellent introduction to the Grillo grape variety and the territory of Noto. The term in the Arabic language "azisa", from which the name Zisola derives, means "splendid", an adjective chosen to effectively describe the character of this wine and the land where it is born. Since Grillo is one of the most widely cultivated varieties in the region, this wine is a true tribute to Sicily, a magnificent island that has been enriched over the course of history by the influence of countless peoples and cultures. The Tuscan Mazzei family, already owners of the Castello di Fonterutoli, has therefore embarked on this adventure on Sicilian soil precisely in order to valorise the region's inestimable wine heritage.

Grillo Zisola - Mazzei 'Azisa' is made from only Grillo grapes from vines bred to the alberello system on medium-textured soils, characterised by a high limestone content. The vines also benefit from the altitude of 130 metres above sea level and the excellent south-east exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand towards the end of August and are then immediately transported to the cellar for white vinification, with gentle pressing and subsequent alcoholic fermentation of the must in low-temperature stainless steel tanks. Also in stainless steel, the wine matures for several months until final bottling, which takes place between February and March of the year following the harvest.

The Sicilian white wine 'Azisa' Grillo di Zisola - Mazzei has an intense straw-yellow hue. On the nose inviting scents of lemon peel alternate with sweet floral hints of jasmine and orange blossom, all supported by mineral hints of iodine. The sip is dry and clean, refreshing and drinkable, with good savoury persistence.
