GLASS PACK CHIANTI 'NIPOZZANO RISERVA' FRESCOBALDI (2BT) DESCRIPTION

The castle of Nipozzano is the most famous and historical property of the Frescobaldi family, the ancient stronghold that has guarded the city of Florence since the dawn of the year 1000. Its name seems to mean 'without a well': testimony to the scarcity of water in the area, which, however, became an ideal circumstance for the cultivation of vines. Indeed, the first evidence of the quality of the estate's wines, which were also purchased by the likes of Donatello and Michelozzi, dates back to the Renaissance. The wine-growing far-sightedness of the Frescobaldi family is well attested by that enlightened ancestor who, in the year 1855, decided to plant in the estate vineyards some varieties still unknown in Tuscany, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, investing 1,000 silver florins.

"Chianti Nipozzano Riserva' is the emblematic label of the ancient castle. A few kilometres north-east of Florence, the vineyards are located in the heart of the Chianti Rufina area, the northernmost sub-zone of the great appellation. At an altitude of around 300 metres above sea level, the vineyards are wedged between the course of the Sieve and the valley of the Arno, which they face south-west. The Sangiovese grapes, with a balance of classic Chianti comprimari, are destemmed and spontaneous fermentation begins in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Maceration on the skins continues to obtain greater extraction and, again in steel, the subsequent malolactic fermentation is completed. Ageing, on the other hand, involves a period of several months in oak barriques, followed by a further rest in the bottle in the cellar.

"Chianti Nipozzano Riserva" presents a lively ruby red colour and an excellent expressive balance, composed of floral essences, balsamic and ripe fruit nuances, toasted and spicy hints. The Glass Pack double bottle is a must for every wine lover: the first to be enjoyed immediately and the second to be kept to enjoy the evolution of the Sangiovese, relying on the precious goblets provided.
