MANZANILLA SOLERA PLAYA BODEGAS DEL RIO 2022 DESCRIPTION

Bodegas Del Rio's Manzanilla Solera 'Playa' is a fortified wine from Andalusia that stands out for its vibrant saline and oxidative notes, produced in the pago de Miraflores. This pago, a Spanish term similar to the French concept of cru, is one of the most prestigious in the municipality of Sanlucar de Barrameda, an Andalusian coastal town where the prized Denominación de Origen of Manzanilla-Sanlucar de Barrameda falls, whose production revolves around a liqueur wine similar to Jerez Fino. The grape variety that forms the basis of the denomination is Palomino Fino, the main grape of the Jerez area, appreciated in the elaboration of fortified wines due to its rather neutral character, a factor that makes this variety a kind of white board on which wineries can imprint their own style.

Solera 'Playa' Bodegas Del Rio Manzanilla originates from only Palomino Fino grapes grown in the Sanlucar de Barrameda area, on white Albariza soils with a high content of chalk, limestone, clay and sand. The wine is aged in American oak barrels using the Solera Method, for a total period of 4 years.

The 'Playa' Manzanilla Solera from Bodegas Del Rio presents itself in the glass with a sunny golden yellow colour. The intense range of aromas ranges from fragrant notes of white flowers, tropical fruit, ripe apple, citrus and oriental spices to characteristic mineral and saline hints, all complemented by slight oxidative hints. In the mouth it is powerful and enveloping, with excellent freshness and breadth, and a typical saline note emerging on the finish. The recommendation is to serve this Manzanilla as a special end-of-meal wine, perhaps accompanied by blue and mature cheeses. Also try it with seafood dishes with a very strong flavour, such as spaghetti alla bottarga.
