Merlot Khorus 'Stoico' is a red wine frommade with PIWI grapes from Venezia Giulia. It is prdouced by a young winery that narrates an avant-garde viticulture, that of resistant vines, also through the symbolic iconography on the label. The nose releases hints of plum and blueberry jam, accompanied by notes of red flowers and spices. On the palate it is very round, impactful but fresh, with lively tannins that give balance to the sip. Excellent with pork shoulder, also to be tried with intense risotto with aged cheese
Venit's Merlot Khorus 'Stoico' is a soft and juicy red wine that is the child of a sustainable and innovative production vision. In fact, Merlot Khorus is a PIWI variety, a term that identifies certain genetic hybrids selected on the basis of their remarkable resistance to the main vine pathogens. Specifically, this variety was created in 2002 at the University of Udine by crossing Merlot with the Kozma 20-3 hybrid, the bearer of the resistance traits. Like the rest of the 'PIWI' line, 'Stoico' also features on the label the silhouette of the eye, a symbol of the forward-looking vision that characterises the brothers Elia and Marco, owners of the Venit winery.
Merlot Khorus Venit 'Stoico' is made from pure Merlot Khorus grapes grown according to certified organic farming principles on clay soils with a high presence of Caranto, a type of compact clay. Harvesting is done by hand and is followed by alcoholic fermentation of the must in contact with the skins in stainless steel tanks. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is aged for 6 months in small American oak barrels before a further 6 months resting in the bottle prior to its definitive release.
To the eye, Venit's red 'Stoico' Merlot Khorus expresses a dark ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose denotes dark sensations of plum and blueberry that meet floral hints of violet and spicy hints of pepper, all complemented by fresh mentholated memories on the finish. The entry on the palate is silky, full-bodied and very rounded, well supported by juicy freshness and well-integrated tannin, elements that accompany the pleasant fruity finish, of surprising smoothness.
