MERLOT RISERVA 'CAMPO CAMINO' BOSCO DEL MERLO 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Merlot Riserva "Campo Camino" by the Bosco del Merlo winery is a harmonious, smooth red wine that closely reflects the varietal characteristics of this famous Bordeaux grape. Matured for 12 months in wood, it expresses fruity, ripe and rich aromas of cherry and small dark berry fruits, delicately spiced, toasted and vanilla hints. The sip is enveloping, round and persuasive, with silky tannins and a very well-balanced finish.

The Riserva "Campo Camino" is a Merlot that originates from the estate's cru of the same name, which is located on the Bosco del Merlo estate in the borderland between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto. The climate is rather warm, mitigated by the breezes of the Adriatic Sea and cooled by the winds that descend from the Carnic Alps, which guarantee good temperature ranges. The soil consists of calcareous-clayey matrix soils, known as 'caranto', originating from a sedimentary stratification of fluvio-glacial origin, which are particularly suitable for viticulture. The vines are the result of a long and accurate work of clonal selection, which has led to choosing the best plants for grafting in order to increase the quality level of the grapes. Today the vineyard is about 50 years old, is planted at high density and produces aromatically highly concentrated grapes with low yields. Fermentation takes place with maceration on the skins for about 20 days. The wine matures in 30-hectolitre barrels for 12 months and is then refined in bottles for a further 4 months before being put on sale.

The "Campo Camino" Riserva is a fine expression of pure Merlot, made from grapes that are perfectly ripe from a phenolic point of view and therefore particularly rich and intense. The wine has a dark ruby red colour with purple hues. The nose expresses aromas of cherry, blackberry, morello cherry and small dark berry fruits, hints of undergrowth and spices, toasted and herbal nuances. The palate has a good structure, with complex and deep aromas. The elegant and subtle tannins make the sip soft and silky, with a good final persistence.
