Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Il Bossa' Bossanova 2020

Bossanova's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Il Bossa" is the winery's flagship wine, an Adriatic red that is both fresh and warm. Hints of red and black fruit on the nose open the scene to Mediterranean notes of herbs and saltiness. Full-bodied and intense, the sip is a full Mediterranean expression of savoriness, warmth and elegance. Perfect to pair with typical Abruzzo 'arrosticini', especially with the more intense mutton-based ones

MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO 'IL BOSSA' BOSSANOVA 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane 'Il Bossa' is the top red wine from the artisanal Bossanova winery, made from a selection of grapes from old Montepulciano vineyards. The 'Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane' appellation is one of only two DOCGs in the whole of Abruzzo, the production area of which falls within a wide hilly area of the coast and hinterland of the province of Teramo, where the Bossanova estate is located. Viticulture in this place has very ancient roots, as testified by the Greek-Roman historian Polybius, who reported how Hannibal, in the 3rd century B.C., found wine and food in the Teramo valleys that could restore his exhausted soldiers after the Battle of Trasimeno.

Bossanova Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane 'Il Bossa' originates from an old Montepulciano vineyard of an average age of 40 years rooted in clay and limestone soils. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected, then crushed and destemmed for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation accompanied by approximately 20-25 days of maceration on the skins, without using sulphites or other oenological additives. The subsequent maturation phase occurs in cement vats and lasts for 20 months before bottling, which occurs without any clarification or filtration. This is followed by a further 6 months of bottle ageing.

'Il Bossa' Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Bossanova is an intense, dark ruby red colour. The nose has intriguing hints of ripe plum, cherry, thyme, cinnamon, and leather, accompanied by pleasant iodine mineral notes. Intense and warm on the palate, characterised by a full body well-supported by the ripe tannic texture and the decisive savoury timbre.
