Raccaro's Pinot Grigio is born in the heart of Collio, a wine of limited production that seeks to express the soul of its region. The grapes, cultivated on characteristic 'ponca' soils, are harvested by hand and vinified with soft pressing, without skin contact. The nose opens with notes of ripe pear and yellow flowers, enriched by balsamic nuances and hints of iodine. The palate is soft and structured, with a fresh savouriness that lingers in the finish
The Collio Pinot Grigio from the Friulian wine cellar Raccaro is a white wine that is striking with its floral and mineral hints typical of the grape variety and terroir. It is one of Raccaro's latest releases, a Pinot Grigio from a single, small vineyard produced in limited quantities. The Raccaro family has been making this and other traditional varieties from the Collio area since the winery was founded in 1928 by Giuseppe Raccaro, who settled at the foot of Mount Quarin, the hill overlooking Cormòns. The business was perpetuated first by his son Mario, who focused production exclusively on wine-growing, and then by his grandson Dario, the first in 1986 to bottle under the family name.
Pinot Grigio Raccaro Collio derives from pure Pinot Grigio grapes cultivated on soils consisting of the so-called 'ponca', a type of soil formed by analternation of marl and sandstone, very favourable to quality wine growing. Agronomic management is aimed at respecting the health of the environment while the harvest is carried out entirely by hand. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified through soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks, without skin contact, the same type of wine container where the mass rests for about 6 months until final bottling.
To the eye, the Pinot Grigio del Collio of the family-run Raccaro reveals a brilliant straw-yellow hue. The aromatic range opens on fruity and floral sensations of ripe pear, broom and almond blossom, enhanced by nuances of balsamic herbs and a refined mineral vein. Soft, structured and deep taste development, well supported by the brilliant fresh-savoury component that describes a persistent mineral finish.
