The White "Premno" by Tatsis is a drinkable, pleasantly rustic wine from northern Macedonia, Greece. This 'Ktima' Greek for 'domaine' is today a banner of craftsmanship and experimentation in this area. Intense aromas of white flowers, hints of tropical fruit and impactful salty scents make up a bouquet that immediately carries over to the Aegean. On the palate it is fresh, smooth and very savory
The white 'Premno' from the Greek winery Tatsis is a bottle with an aromatic and almost salty character, attributes due to the presence of Malagousia in the blend and the mineral-rich soil of Greek Macedonia. The indigenous white grape variety Malagousia, which seems to be related to the Malvasia family, with which it shares aromaticity, was thought to be extinct in the 1970s. However, thanks to the work of far-sighted researchers and producers, Malagousia is now back in the limelight as one of the symbols of the revival of Greek oenology. The Greek word 'premno' translates as 'strain'.
Tatsis Bianco 'Premno' comes from a distinctive blend of the local vines Malagousia, Assyrtiko and Roditis, to which a percentage of Chardonnay is added. The vines are quite young and are grown on clay and sandy soils, approximately 300 metres above sea level. The different varieties are vinified separately in white with gentle pressing and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts. Maturation always takes place in stainless steel on the fine lees for a few months, after which the wine is bottled and finally marketed.
The colour of Tatsis' white 'Premno' is an intense straw yellow. The aromatic range opens on intriguing scents of lime, yellow apple, pineapple and jasmine, joined by iodine notes on the finish. The taste is very savoury and flowing, fresh and slightly rustic, with a remarkable aromatic persistence. This white wine from Greek Macedonia represents an accessible introduction to the oenological panorama of the area, which is experiencing a recent and great general wine-making ferment.
