Riesling Rheingau Alkoholfrei 'Deserteur' Bibo Runge

The Riesling Rheingau Alkoholfrei 'Deserteur' from the German winery Bibo Runge is a non-alcoholic wine produced in the Rheingau region, on the banks of the Rhine River, that impresses with its freshness and aromatic intensity. This Riesling is counted among the best alcohol-free wines in Germany and won the gold medal at the Mundus Vini in 2023. At the helm of the Bibo Runge estate are husband and wife Markus Bonsels and Monika Eichner, who decided to leave their respective jobs and completely change their lives following a dream, officially starting their own wine project in 2017 in the small town of Oestrich-Winkel.

The 'Deserteur' Alkoholfrei Bibo Runge Riesling Rheingau is produced from only Rheingau Riesling grapes cultivated without the use of herbicides, with a view to sincere environmental sustainability. The grapes, harvested entirely by hand, come from old vineyards in the surroundings of the village of Hallgarten, within the Rheingau wine region. In the cellar, a pre-fermentation maceration is first carried out to optimise aromatic extraction, followed by soft pressing of the grapes. Fermentation and ageing for several months takes place in oak barrels, giving the wine plenty of time to evolve in tranquillity. This is followed by dealcolation, followed by the small addition of a dosage whose recipe is jealously guarded by Markus. As with the Metodo Classico sparkling wines, the dosage is intended to balance the taste of this Riesling, characterised by a final alcohol content of less than 0.5%.

Bibo Runge's Riesling Alkoholfrei Rheingau 'Deserteur' possesses a brilliant straw-yellow hue. The nose offers fragrant hints of green apple, lemon peel and jasmine flowers, while on the palate the wine is dry and clean, very drinkable thanks to its fresh and gentle character..
