Giovanni Almondo's Roero Rosso is a version of Nebbiolo that skilfully combines the fragrance of a rich, ripe fruit with the delicate notes of tertiary evolution deriving from a very well-calibrated use of wood, which does not affect the wine's aromatic profile. Delicate, perfumed, soft and silky, it is a red wine of remarkable elegance and finesse, expressing very well the peculiarities of the Roero territory. The typical savoir-faire of a family estate, handed down with passion from generation to generation, makes it possible to offer a balanced and harmonious label of extraordinary taste pleasure.
Giovanni Almondo's Roero Rosso wine is produced on an estate with a total area of around fifteen hectares. Agronomic management is carried out with the utmost respect for nature, with mechanical weeding and manual work. Among the rows are the classic vines of the area, which form the basis of wines with a classic, genuine and straightforward face. The Nebbiolo vineyards have an average age of about 30 years. They are located in the hilly area of Montà and are cultivated on very well drained soils, mainly composed of sand of ancient marine origin, with components of limestone, silt and clay. The climate, mild and ventilated, with good temperature ranges, favours excellent ripening and the development of intense and elegant aromas. Once the harvesting operations are completed, the best grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with a maceration period on the skins of a couple of weeks. Before bottling, the wine matures for 18 months in large, non-toasted Slavonian oak barrels.
Giovanni Almondo's Rosso Roero is the clearest and most direct expression of the best characteristics of Nebbiolo from the left bank of the Tanaro. It has a beautiful, rather intense ruby red colour with slight garnet hues. The olfactory profile is fragrant and refined, with floral scents, aromas of small berries, wild strawberries, raspberry, redcurrant, morello cherry, and delicate hints of undergrowth. The palate is pleasantly harmonious, with ripe fruit and a fine tannic texture well integrated with the body of the wine. The finish is balanced, clear, fresh and pleasantly savoury.
