ROERO ROSSO MATTEO CORREGGIA 2021 DESCRIPTION

Matteo Correggia's Roero Rosso is a wine born on the left bank of the Tanaro River in Canale d'Alba in the province of Cuneo. The winery is the result of the careful work of the Correggia family, which began with Giovanni Battista, who initially owned a farm in the Roero hills. In 1985 Matteo entered the business, inheriting a passion for winemaking but with an eye toward the future and innovation: he decided to work to enhance the hitherto undervalued Roero territory, cultivating while respecting the dictates of organic farming and following winemaking styles cut to the intrinsic characteristics of native grape varieties. In 1989 he approached the philosophy of the nascent Slow Food, and it was at this time that he met Coco Cano, an avant-garde artist who would create all of the winery's bottle labels. Today the sons run the business in line with their father's teachings so that, over time, his teachings will reach future generations.

Matteo Correggia's Roero Rosso vineyards grow on soils that have undergone numerous changes over time due to the retreat of seawater, a phenomenon that has resulted in substantial deposits of sand and gravel with marine sediments and marly stone, creating ideal conditions for the production of elegant and harmonious wines. The climate is continental, with hot, sultry summers and harsh winters, also characterized by copious snowfall and frost. Human intervention in the vineyard is kept to a minimum, and the crops are embedded in a diverse and thriving ecosystem that allows the raw material to unleash its full intrinsic potential. Harvesting is manual and takes place between late September and early October; in the cellar, it macerates in steel for about 6-8 days and then ages for 6 months in second-passage barriques.

To the eye, Matteo Correggia's Roero Rosso appears garnet red with intense reflections. The bouquet of aromas is broad and reminiscent of violets, dried flowers and notes of white pepper and balsamic herbs; in the mouth, it is enveloping, elegant and intense with a tannin well present and well integrated into the drink. In pairing, it is recommended with traditional Piedmontese red meat cuts cooked in stews and roasts, fresh stuffed pasta served with elaborate sauces, and also interesting with aged cow's milk cheeses. A product to keep in one's personal cellar and consume at family gatherings to enjoy an ambassador product of the Piedmontese territory and its most authentic flavours.
