Antonelli San Marco's Montefalco Sagrantino is the symbolic wine of the area, the one that best tells the story and character of Umbria's great reds. It is a wine of great structure, with intense aromas and dense tannins, which requires a long period of aging to reach a full and harmonious expressive maturity. It is a wine with a strong personality, expressing notes of underbrush, spices, red fruit of great richness and taste persistence. Precisely because of these particular characteristics, at the table it enhances pairings with braised meats, stews or with game.
Sagrantino Montefalco is the iconic wine of the area, made by a historic producer. The Antonelli family has been present for five generations in Montefalco and today owns one of the largest and most important estates. It can, in fact, count on about fifty hectares under vine, within a 170-hectare property, where olive groves, woods and pastures find space. The vineyards are conducted under organic farming, in full respect of a still unspoiled nature. Healthy, genuine and high-quality grapes are vinified with great care and delicacy, with the aim of always leaving the varietal characteristics and the truest and most authentic face of the terroir in the foreground.
The Sagrantino Montefalco produced by the Antonelli San Marco winery is one of Italy's great red wines for aging. Its power and structure guarantee extraordinary longevity over time, with important aromatic evolutions. The grapes come from vineyards cultivated in the municipality of Montefalco, in the San Marco area, on hillsides at an altitude between 300 and 400 meters, with south, southwest facing exposure. Fermentation takes place in steel with a long maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 6 months in tonneau, 18 months in large oak barrels, 12 months in concrete tanks and finishes the aging process with another 12 months in the bottle. In the glass it has a deep, dark red color. The bouquet expresses dense and rich red fruit aromas, shadowy hints of humus, spicy sensations, hints of tobacco and balsamic nuances. On the palate it denotes a remarkable structure, with an important tannic texture and a rich, complex sip that lengthens toward a very persistent finish.
