Sagrantino Montefalco from the Perticaia winery is a red wine with a great personality, intense, rich, and good structure. It is made from pure Sagrantino, an ancient Umbrian grape variety that has been cultivated for centuries in the wonderful hill country of Montefalco and has now become a symbol of regional oenology. It is a red wine very rich in polyphenols and particularly in tannins, which requires long periods of ageing in wood to reach full expressive maturity. It is distinguished by a pleasantly fruity and spicy character and extraordinary longevity that gives interesting aromatic evolutions.
Montefalco Sagrantino is the fruit of one of the most original wineries in the beautiful area of this charming Umbrian village. Perticaia cultivates about 15 hectares of vineyards in the Casale area and has skillfully combined the oldest traditions of the area with a modern style based on elegant wines that focus more on smoothness than power. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level on clay soils that are quite rich and deep. At the end of the harvest, the best grapes are sent to fermentation using only indigenous yeasts and classic maceration on the skins. The wine rests for 12 months in stainless steel tanks, 12 months in oak barrels and completes the ageing period with 12 months in the bottle.
Perticaia's Sagrantino Montefalco is a very interesting and innovative interpretation of the Umbrian grape variety. It is a label inspired by a production philosophy, dressing the typical structure and power of Sagrantino, with a dress of refined and elegant taste pleasantness. To the eye, it presents a dark, dense and almost impenetrable red colour. The olfactory picture gives intense notes of red berry fruit, plum, blackberry and currant, sensations of soft oriental spices, cinnamon, hints of humus and light roasted notes of roasting. The palate is full-bodied, with an important tannic texture, sunk in rich and dense aromas, accompanying a fresh and very persistent finish. A perfect red to pair with stews or braised meats.
