Sangiovese 'Musignana' is Tenuta La Novella's latest creation, an intense wine devoted to representing the locality from which it springs. Viticultural and production techniques are all aimed at enhancing the wine's freshness: vines planted on sandy soils, moderate use of stalks in fermentation, maturation in cement tanks. Complex and fruity, the palate is almost citric, but it is balanced by a soft and juicy sip, with complex and persistent fruity sensations
Tenuta La Novella presents the Sangiovese 'Musignana', one of the winery's most prestigious labels, capable of surprising for its depth and character. This is one of Tenuta La Novella's latest novelties, presented to the market in 2024. Its name refers to the location of the estate, built in the 14th century as the home of the Augustinian Sisters of Santa Croce. Originally known as the 'monastery of San Bartolomeo a Musignana', the current appellation 'La Novella' was given to the property in 1827 by the noble Zini family, who converted it into a large agricultural estate by expanding its boundaries.
The 'Musignana' Tenuta La Novella Sangiovese is made solely from grapes of the black berry variety of the same name grown under certified organic and biodynamic conditions on soils composed of shale and sandstone. The plants have an average age of 20 years and are located at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. The manual harvesting and careful selection of the grapes is followed bymashing in stoneware containers, partly with whole bunches, containers in which the spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place accompanied by approximately 25 days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent 12-month maturation phase also takes place in stoneware containers, and after a further year of bottle ageing, the wine is finally ready for release. Throughout the entire process, clarification operations are excluded and the liquid is only subjected to a mild filtration before bottling.
The colour of Tenuta La Novella's Sangiovese 'Musignana' is a light ruby red with purple highlights. The seductive bouquet is described by vivid hints of blackberry and blueberry, enriched by spicy hints of cinnamon and intriguing herbaceous scents. In the mouth it is soft and complex, with silky tannin accompanying the intense freshness in a deep and persistent development.
