Located within the territory of Greve in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, Tenuta La Novella is the creator of a production that includes artisanal wines made at high altitudes. The modern history of the estate began in 1996, when François Schneider took over the 14th-century monastery of San Bartolomeo in Musignana, which was in a state of neglect at the time, and restored it to its former glory within 10 years. This monastery, which in the course of its long history passed through the hands of various noble families, taking its current name 'La Novella' in 1827, has always been dedicated to the production of high quality wine and oil.

The Tenuta La Novella estate covers 188 hectares, of which just over 13 are reserved for viticulture, with the remainder given over to olive groves and woods. Alongside Sangiovese, the varietal emblem of Chianti, the winery raises Syrah, the famous black grape that gives surprising results in this area, as well as small percentages of Canaiolo, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Moscato and Viognier. The vineyards, organically and biodynamically managed and certified since 1998 and 2019 respectively, are spread over 15 different plots, located in the best sub-zones of the Estate. The vines stand on soils rich in clay, limestone, sandstone and shale, depending on the plot of reference, benefiting on the one hand from the high altitudes, ranging from 350 to 650 metres above sea level, and on the other hand from the significant temperature variations between day and night. Harvesting is carried out strictly by hand in several stages and is followed by spontaneous fermentation initiated by means of pied de cuve, sometimes with a portion of whole bunches. For the ageing phase, oak barrels of various sizes, cement vats, steel tanks and stoneware amphorae are then used.

The wines of Tenuta La Novella make freshness and aromatic fragrance their salient features, qualities that enhance the character of the original vines. They are modern but straightforward expressions of the Greve in Chianti territory, characterised by formidable dynamism.
