Tenuta La Novella's Syrah 'Fonte Domini' comes from the fascinating Croci vineyard, a plot perched 600 metres above sea level. The young vines were selected in one of the most prized territories for Syrah, the Hermitage, in order to seek maximum purity and quality of the grapes. On the nose, hints of black fruits intertwine with spices, while on the palate, intense but rounded tannins intertwine with plenty of fruit and a juicy sip.
Syrah 'Fonte Domini' is the jewel in the crown of Tenuta La Novella's production, a reality that has successfully bet on the bond of love between Syrah and the Chianti region, giving life to a red wine of great depth. One of the best plots of land on the entire estate was selected for this wine, planted on soil characterised by the rather superficial presence of mother rock, a factor that favours the high quality of the grapes. In addition, the Syrah clones used come from the French Hermitage area, the land of choice for this grape variety.
Tenuta La Novella Syrah 'Fonte Domini' originates from pure Syrah grapes grown organically and biodynamically, both certified, at a high altitude of 600 metres above sea level. In particular, the grapes come from a single 15-year-old vineyard with an extension of 2.20 hectares, characterised by a full southern exposure and ahigh concentration of very friable schist in the soil. After harvesting, carried out strictly by hand with careful selection, the grapes are vinified partly whole cluster with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks using the pied de cuve. The extraction techniques employed include punching-down and pumping-over and the mass is then subjected to 20-30 days of post-fermentation maceration. At this point, the wine is transferred into stoneware vats and 30-hectolitre oak barrels for ageing for 18 months, followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing before final release.
Tenuta La Novella's 'Fonte Domini' Syrah is dark ruby red in colour. Intense sensations of black fruits such as plum and blackberry delineate the aromatic profile together with typical peppery hints and hints of liquorice on the finish. The taste is voluminous and very broad, distinctly fresh and savoury, with robust but integrated tannins accompanying the persistent fruity and spicy finish.
