Tenuta La Novella's Syrah 'Sambrena' is the meeting between typical Chianti soil, ‘galestro’, with international grape varieties. On the nose, the wine reveals a bouquet of intense red fruits, with notes of raspberry and cherry, enriched by elegant nuances of black pepper that intertwine with subtle hints of graphite and treated leather. In the mouth, it confirms a very well-balanced profile: fresh and juicy, with pronounced tannins that provide ample structure and remarkable taste persistence. Beverino and complex at the same time
Syrah 'Sambrena' is adark and juicy interpretation of this popular black berry variety, realised by Tenuta La Novella winery through a biodynamic production approach. When François Schneider took over Tenuta La Novella in 1996, he immediately directed production towards environmentally friendly viticulture, adopting the principles of organic farming in order to preserve land that had never been poisoned by synthetic chemicals. So already in 1998 the winery obtained organic certification, but that was not enough. The definitive turning point came in 2009, when biodynamic practices were introduced, and after a long conversion, starting with the 2019 harvest, Tenuta La Novella's wines are also certified biodynamic.
Tenuta La Novella Syrah 'Sambrena' is derived from pure Syrah grapes from vines with an average age of 10 years rooted in shale and clay soils. The vines benefit as much from the organic and biodynamic management of the vineyards as from the high altitudes. Following manual harvesting and careful selection, the grapes are transferred to the cellar for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. The subsequent maturation phase lasts for about 12 months and takes place in a combination of cement and steel, so as to respect the character of the grape variety and the terroir as much as possible. According to the same philosophy, the wine does not undergo any clarification.
Tenuta La Novella's Syrah 'Sambrena' has an intense, dark ruby red colour. The nose unfolds on vivid scents of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, enriched by subtle hints of black pepper and intriguing hints of graphite and treated leather. The taste is ample and rather fresh, with clear but pleasant tannins that anticipate the juicy and persistent finish.
