Friulano "Toc Bas" Ronco del Gelso is the territory's classic white wine, once known as Tocai. It is made from an ancient French grape variety, Sauvignonasse, which arrived in Friuli from the Bordeaux region during the 19th century. The mild, sunny, almost Mediterranean climate and the alluvial soils of the High Banks of the Isonzo area, which are characterized by the abundant presence of cottoli and gravel transported by the river over the millennia, are very suitable for the cultivation of white grape varieties. Friulano, in particular, yields wines with very expressive fruit and a harmonious profile of great elegance and pleasantness of taste.
Ronco del Gelso's "Toc Bas" is a Friulano that was born in a family-run business, which has been able to highlight itself with a range of labels capable of expressing the best characteristics of the territory. The grapes come from particularly suitable vineyards located in the lowest area of Cormons, which descends from the hills of Collio towards the alluvial plain area of the Isonzo River. The vines are the result of a clonal selection of the best plants on the estate. At the end of the harvest, the clusters are pressed whole in a very gentle manner. The must ferment at a controlled temperature with selected yeasts. The wine matures for a period of one year in 25-hectoliter oak barrels without carrying out malolactic fermentation and finishes ageing with another year in the bottle before release.
The Friulano wine "Toc Bas" Ronco del Gelso is a particularly intense and rich white wine with a sunny and ripe face. To the eye, it is golden yellow in colour with bright and brilliant reflections. The nose is intense and rich, with aromas reminiscent of wildflowers, herbs, white-fleshed fruit, peach and fresh almond. The palate has a good structure, with fruity, ripe and enveloping aromas. The sip is long and rich, with harmonious and persistent fruit, anticipating a fresh, savoury finish with a good depth of flavour. An extraordinary white table wine, it pairs very well with fish dishes, white meats, and savory cold cuts, especially with San Daniele ham.
