Borgo del Tiglio is a small winery located in Brazzano, in the province of Gorizia. It was founded by Nicola Manferrari, who at the age of 23, after graduating, began working at his mother's pharmacy. After his father's death, he was asked to manage the family's 5 hectares of vineyards. Soon Nicola realised that harvesting, observing the development and ripening of each grape, gave him much more joy than being behind the counter at the pharmacy. From that moment on, he was free to immerse himself in this new adventure. However, since he was neither an agronomist nor an enologist, he had no real fundamental concepts to follow during production. He decided to learn French, and after studying Champagnol's "Phisiologie de la Vigne", he began to arrange the stills resulting from this experience in a precise order, and began to have a clear vision of the work in the vineyard and in the cellar. Nicola embarked on a journey of experimentation and innovation, which helped him achieve new goals and break down conventional ideas of local winemakers, thanks to an unusual approach that makes him one of the most interesting figures on the Friuli wine scene.
The vineyards of Borgo del Tiglio are all located in the Collio area, on marl and sandstone soils just over 20 kilometres from the sea. There are about 9 hectares of vines, divided between three estates, Ca' delle Vallade, Brazzano and Ruttars, where Friulano, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Rhine Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown. The vinification of all wines takes place in French wooden barrels, and aims to bring out the specific characteristics of each terroir, which is why each plot is processed separately. The various movements that the wine experiences are always carried out by gravity, without using mechanical equipment and thus reducing excessive handling.
The Borgo del Tiglio winery is primarily focused on producing great white wines, characterised by finesse, complexity and balance. These labels reflect the territory from which they come, where each grape is cultivated in full respect of the vegetative balance. Bottles that are born from the creative mind of Nicola, from which all the beauty of the Friulian Collio area emerges, interpreted with a particular, unique and authentic style.
