Located in the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation area, north of the Dordogne river, the Chateau Bellevue-La-Ferrière winery is committed to expressing all the pleasantness of the wines of the eastern end of Bordeaux. The winery is located in the small commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, east of the city of Libourne, between the villages of Saint-Émilion and Castillon-la-Bataille. Here, the Courrèche family has been dedicated to wine production for two generations, with the activity carried on today by Thierry Courrèche. The estate's production falls within the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, which until 2009 was known as Côtes de Castillon and later merged with the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, following the creation of the latter AOC. Concerning the history of the Château, it was built in the 17th century and until 1973, before its acquisition by the Courrèche family, was owned by the Ponton d'Amécourt family, famous for Gustave de Ponton d'Amécourt, who invented one of the first helicopter prototypes in 1861.
The vineyard property of Chateau Bellevue-La-Ferrière extends over just 6.5 hectares, dedicated to the traditional Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with the latter representing no less than 90% of the estate's varietal platform. The vines grow on soils rich in clay and limestone and the harvest is carried out with the aid of modern harvesting machines only when the grapes have reached full ripeness. In the cellar, the grapes first undergo cold maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation, on the other hand, takes place in cement containers, and several racking operations are carried out throughout the process in order to limit the amount of pre-bottling filtration, in order to allow the wine to preserve its qualities.
The Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux from Chateau Bellevue-La-Ferrière, the only wine produced by the Thierry Courrèche family, is appreciated for its full, enveloping and fruity taste, characterised by the soft tannins typical of Merlot.
