Chateau La Rose Bouquey

Complex, fruity wines a stone's throw from Saint-Emilion
Region Bordeaux (Francia)
Address Saint-Emilion (FR)

In the prestigious wine-growing context of Saint-Émilion, along the right bank of the Dorgogne river, stands Chateau La Rose Bouquey, a Bordeaux winery committed to enhancing the area's well-established oenological tradition. Those of Saint-Émilion are the oldest vineyards in the entire Bordeaux region, dating back some 2,000 years to the time when the Romans planted the first vines. This is one of the most important appellations in the area, whose production is centred on Merlot, as opposed to Médoc, an area on the opposite bank of Bordeaux, where Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme. Precisely because of the dominance of Merlot, the wines of Saint-Émilion are usually very approachable even in their youth, thanks to the characteristic softness of the tannin that characterises this variety.

The vineyard property of Chateau La Rose Bouquey is reserved for the classic Bordeaux varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, cultivated near the beautiful medieval commune of Saint-Émilion. The vineyards consist of vines with an average age of 35 years, rooted on soils characterised by ahigh presence of clay and sand. Only once the grapes have reached the optimum stage of ripeness is manual harvesting carried out, with the bunches being placed in stainless steel tanks in the cellar. In these wine containers, alcoholic fermentation takes place in contact with the skins, for a period that varies depending on the vintage. This is followed by ageing for about a year in French oak barrels, containers that enrich the aromatic complexity of the wine and refine its taste.

The wines of Chateau La Rose Bouquey, marketed under the illustrious Saint-Émilion appellation, stand out for their fascinating aromas of berries, flowers and spices. These reds are to be enjoyed as young as they are a few years after harvesting, pairing them with mature cheeses or with various meat dishes such as roasts and stews.
