Château Riotor is a winery in Provence that specializes, in keeping with the tradition for the area, in the production of perfumed and elegant rosés. The Château is located in the small commune of Cannet-des-Maures, at the foot of the Massif des Maures, within a beautiful landscape of vineyards, pine forests, olive groves, lavender fields and Mediterranean scrub. The leadership of the estate is in the hands of the Abeille family, now in its fourth winemaking generation, represented by brothers Henri and Jean. The two brothers are direct descendants of Henri Plantin, founder of Château Mont-Redon, a well-known and highly regarded winery in the not-so-distant Châteauneuf-du-Pape area. Over time, the Abeille brothers, skilled and experienced winemakers, have invested in the purchase of state-of-the-art machinery and the renovation of facilities.
The land area owned by Chateau Riotor covers about 85 hectares, 48 of which are reserved for viticulture. Varieties grown include the traditional Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Rolle and Clairette, planted on humus-rich red clay soils in the sunny, Mediterranean climate of Provence. The vines are partly very old, planted by Henri and Jean's great-grandfather, and are cultivated organically. The presence of centuries-old pine trees around the vineyards then allows natural protection for the plants from the strong winds that blow in from the sea. The oenology adopted in the winery is aimed at respecting the character of the grapes, which are vinified delicately through short cold macerations aimed at preserving the aromatic heritage of the berries. Precisely to safeguard the aromas and freshness of the rosés, they are aged without the use of wooden barrels.
The wines of Château Riotor are able to capture the fascinating Mediterranean essence of Provence transmitting it into the glass with rosés rich in fragrance and character, with a fresh, crisp taste that is pleasantly savory. These are labeled under the Côtes de Provence appellation, the largest in the region, comprising more than 80 communes.
