Domaine Stephane Magnien is a family business located in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. For four generations, it has been cultivating vines in Burgundy and producing elegant wines, a splendid expression of an extraordinary terroir. The Domaine was founded back in 1897 by Victor Magnien and today the helm of the estate is in the hands of Stéphane, who carries on the tradition with great passion. The estate has always been managed with full respect for the surrounding environment. No herbicides have ever been used in the vineyard and work between the rows has always been done with horses or small tractors, so as not to compact the soil and to preserve its vitality and natural fertility.

Morey-Saint-Denis has always been known as one of the most prestigious villages, an ideal synthesis between the refined finesse of Chambolle-Musigny and the richness and power of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyards of Morey-Saint-Denis are located at an altitude between 250 and 360 metres above sea level, facing east. The soils are limestone-clayey, with the presence of pebbles, sand veins and silt. The Grand Crus are located at the foot of the first reliefs, in the central and best exposed zone, while the Premier Crus are located in the lower or higher zones. The area is predominantly cultivated with Pinot Noir, although there are also plots dedicated to the white grape varieties Chardonnay and Aligoté. The Domaine has vineyards in the most prestigious areas of the region with which it produces excellent labels: the Grand Cru Clos-Saint-Denis and Charmes- Chambertin; the Premiers Crus Morey-Saint-Denis Aux petites Noix, Morey-Saint-Denis Les Faconnières, Morey-Saint-Denis Les Monts-Luisants, Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers as well as the Village Appellation wines.

The philosophy of the Domaine is to take special care of the precious vineyard heritage. All work between the rows, including the harvest, is carried out by hand and the vines have been trained so that they go very deep with their roots, in order to find water and nutrients in the precious local soils, restoring the typicality of a great terroir. Vinification is carried out in a simple and traditional manner, so as not to alter the varietal profile of the grapes and the character of the soils. According to tradition, the Pinot Noir matures for a period of 14-18 months in French oak barrels. The wines are bottled without clarification or filtration, but only after static decantation to preserve their expressive integrity.
