The Fattoria Mondo Antico winery is located on the first hills of the Oltrepò Pavese area, at an altitude of about 400 metres, in the small municipality of Rocca Susella, which is in the province of Pavia and only 10 km from Salice Terme. It covers a total area of about 26 hectares, of which just over 4 hectares are dedicated exclusively to grapes and planted with the most typical varieties of the area including Croatina, Barbera, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery is immersed in a hilly landscape surrounded by wild woods and stretches of trees, with a unique and excellent climatic condition that is particularly favourable for the cultivation of vines (to the point of being included in the municipal designations of the legendary Veronelli). Alongside the winery is a genuine agritourism, where cows (which graze freely between the vines), horses and pigs are bred. Various types of products are created from the cellar's raw materials, including wine of course. However, before selling wine on the market, the Mondo Antico winery collaborated with Giorgio Mercandelli of the Cantina Alchemica winery, whose advice and philosophy paved the way for high-quality production. As a result, the farm began to promote its own bottles and made a name for itself at artisanal wine fairs, such as the Vinnatur.
In the vineyard, Fattoria Mondo Antico adopts simple agricultural techniques that are based on animal manure, trying to reduce human intervention to a minimum. The vines grow healthy and intact, and are trained following the principles of biodynamic agriculture, giving birth to bunches full of fragrance and flavour, with a high organoleptic quality. This is undoubtedly thanks to the geographical context, as the vines are located at an altitude of 360-450 metres and, thanks to their high gradient, enjoy excellent exposure to the sun, which is considerably more intense during the summer months. Additionally, constant ventilation plays an important role in reducing humidity and the onset of parasitic diseases. The soils have a loamy and sandy texture, which allows excellent water drainage. In the cellar, for the time being, only steel tanks are used for both the vinification and the final ageing phases.
The wines of Mondo Antico have a genuine and typical profile, characterised by that unique rustic note that distinguishes the expressions of the Oltrepò area. They are rich and fragrant interpretations that are appreciated for their fresh and fruity notes. A true portrayal of the Oltrepò in liquid form, which is highly reminiscent of the ancient rural traditions!
