Maison Lancelot-Pienne is located in the heart of Champagne and is closely identified with the prestigious Grand Cru of Cramant, in the Cote des Blancs. Today it is managed by winemaker Gilles, heir to a long family tradition spanning over more than a century and several generations. This family maison was in fact founded in the early 20th century by Jean-Baptiste Lancelot, after a long experience as chef de cave at Mumm, located right in Cramant. This activity then passed into the hands of his son Jean, also endowed with a long experience gained in large maisons, who after the war marketed the first bottles under the family label. Starting in the 1960s, the third family generation united its fortunes with that of another family of winemakers, the Pienne family, consolidating themselves as a point of reference in the production scene of the Grand Cru of Cramant.
The Lancet-Pienne vineyards cover about 9 hectares and are divided into multiple plots, located mostly in the Grand Cru of Cramant, with small extensions towards the Vallée de la Marne. The conformation of land, soil and and climate characteristics are particularly favorable to the cultivation of Chardonnay, which finds a way of expressing itself by reaching high levels of quality. The historic production style started by Mumm in the early 1900s, well expressed by Jean-Baptiste Lancelot, underlies the stylistic approach still followed by the family today, revisited thanks to the expertise of the new generations.
Lancelot-Pienne Champagnes reveal and enhance the different nuances of Cramant's Chardonnay. They are unique and well recognizable expressions, played on smoothness and creaminess. They are born from great oenological expertise, a centuries-old family history and a great passion for their terroir, fundamental requirements for creating great Champagnes every year.
