Piedmontese winemaker Luca Leggero is committed to the oenological enhancement of the Canavese territory, cultivated with artisanal care and a keen eye on environmental sustainability. Born in 1990, Luca grew up in Villareggia, a small municipality on the outskirts of Canavese, located between Turin and Valle d'Aosta, a place dedicated to wine production since ancient times. Fundamental to the winemaker was the influence of his grandfather, secretary of Coldiretti and a great wine-growing enthusiast, who helped introduce Luca to the world of wine. Thus, as soon as he was sixteen, Luca Leggero began to try his hand at winemaking, a passion that he pursued in parallel with his law studies and that culminated in the foundation of his company in 2015 in Villareggia, his native land. The modern winery is then designed according to canons of functionality and environmental sustainability, set within a small hill that reduces its visual impact and also acts as natural thermal insulation.
Grower Luca Leggero cultivates just over 8 hectares of vines, mainly dedicated to Nebbiolo and Erbaluce, the most representative varieties of the Canavese area, alongside another traditional Piedmont grape: Dolcetto. The rows of vines are planted between 250 and 300 metres above sea level on land of morainic origin, formed by glacial deposits accumulated over time that have determined the high presence of sand, gravel and blocks of rock. Agronomic management is based on organic farming principles, while the pruning method is the 'Simonit and Sirch' method, aimed at the well-being and physiological balance of the plant. Both steel tanks and truncated conical wooden vats are used for vinification, the latter being used for processing Nebbiolo grapes. Both types of wine containers are then equipped with temperature regulation systems to ensure a controlled course of the fermentation processes. Instead, the subsequent ageing phase takes place in terracotta amphorae and large Austrian oak barrels, often used jointly by the producer.
Luca Leggero's wines express thefresh and fragrant soul of Canavese wines, with the Erbaluce di Caluso and Canavese Nebbiolo appellations representing the core of production.
